Frequently Asked Questions

How much are therapy sessions?

Depending on your referral and funding type, prices vary.

Private sessions are charged at $160, for those with a Mental Health Care Plan, you will be eligible for a rebate of $79.05

NDIS sessions are charged at $193.99, in line with the national NDIS price guide. Sessions can be conducted in the community and at your home at an additional cost ($193.99 pro rata).

All sessions are 50 minutes, face-to-face time, with 10 minutes allocated for administration.

How do I book a session?

Go to the contact us page to send an enquiry. We will respond within 24 hours.

How often will therapy sessions take place?

Frequency of sessions depends on a few factors. Some people are best having weekly sessions, others prefer fortnightly sessions. We recommend speaking to your therapist to collaboratively find what suits your needs best.

What age groups do you work with?

We work with all ages.

Children under the age of 6 are best to have sessions which have more of a parent focus, rather than the majority of the sessions being with the child. Your therapist will be able to explain more in session.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

If you are wanting psychological support for mental illness, situational struggles, trauma or a disability, therapy is right for you. Therapy can improve your quality of life, overall well being, physical pain, and relationships.

What is the difference between mental health social work and psychology?

A psychologist and a Mental Health Social Worker both provide focused psychological interventions to improve someone’s mental health. Both types of clinicians can provide a variety of mental health supports to an individual. Social workers take a holistic approach to a person’s health, recognising the systemic impacts on each individual.

Clinical psychologists are able to provide assessments and diagnoses that neither a social worker nor a psychologist can provide.

Does it matter whether we meet in person or online?

Our preference is always in person (it’s more personal). The connection you get in person is far superior to Zoom or phone.

We do offer tele-health and Zoom appointments for those who cannot make sessions in person for an array of reasons.

Do you cover NDIS sessions?

AM Therapy is able to provide sessions covered by the NDIA if your management type is either plan or self.

We have service agreements that you will be supported to complete in your initial session.

How do I check that you are registered?

Your GP can refer to us directly, they will be able to verify our registration with Medicare. The Australian Association of Social Workers registration number is listed below.
